When to use this resize tool

Drugstore booths and phone cameras often produce rectangular files. Passport applications require a square 2×2 crop. If you already have a decent portrait on a white background, this tool saves a trip to a photo vendor. It does not fix glare, glasses, or busy backgrounds. Run the cropped file through our photo requirements checker before you print or mail.

How cropping works

When smart framing is available, the server reads your upload and centers the square on your face with head-size guidance from official photo rules. Without that service, we apply a center square crop from your original file. Both paths use server-side image processing to export a 600×600 pixel JPEG. Nothing is stored after your download.

Printing your 2×2 photo

Download the JPEG and print at actual size (2×2 inches, not “fit to page”). Many home printers can print a single 2×2 on photo paper. You can also email the file to a pharmacy or warehouse club that prints passport photos for about $15.00 (estimate, not a government fee). What this tool does not do

We do not remove backgrounds, apply beauty filters, or guarantee acceptance. The State Department and acceptance clerks make the final call. Read the full US passport photo requirements and bring a backup print to your acceptance facility appointment.

Frequently asked questions

Is 600×600 pixels the correct size?

Yes for most print workflows. Two inches at 300 DPI equals 600 pixels per side. Some online renewal uploads accept similar square dimensions. Always check the channel you use.

Will this remove my background?

No. Take the original photo against a plain white or off-white wall. This tool only crops and resizes.

Can I use a selfie?

Only if the framing and background already meet passport rules. Most selfies fail because of angle, shadow, or a busy background. Use the photo checker after you crop.

Is my photo stored on your server?

No. The file is processed in memory for your session and discarded. We do not keep uploads.
